A federal lawsuit filed in Manhattan on Friday accuses Lufthansa Cargo and others of destroying a $3 million painting by the American artist Brice Marden during a move last year from Moscow to New York, Reuters reported. The painting, “Au Centre,” a two-panel work from 1969 in two shades of gray, came loose in its travel frame while being transported, resulting in “a significant amount of paint loss” and the destruction of the painting, said Eliot Greenberg, a lawyer for the Gagosian Gallery in New York, the painting’s owner. The gallery sued Lufthansa and Art Crating Inc. in a New York state court in June, but the case was moved to federal court on Friday.
